Chidbhavananda Maharaj

Sri Ramakrishna, Tapovanam, Tirupparaitturai, Tiruchirappalli District is an institution working for the educational, spiritual, moral and cultural advancement of Tamilnadu. It has branches at Tiruvedakam, Chitrachavadi, Courtallam, Cheranmahadevi,Salem, Karur, Pannaikadu, Ramanathapuram, Rameswaram and Tirunelveli. It has been running successfully a residential High School on Gurukula pattern at Tiruppraitturai since 1942. The Tapovanam is also Managing a number of educational institutions at various levels for boys and girls not only at its branch centres but also in many other places in Tamilnadu.

The College was started in June 1971 by the above Tapovanam. It is intended for men only. It is located in ideal rural surroundings amidst bounteous natural scenery all round on the northern bank of the river Vaigai. During 1971-72 and 1972-73 only pre university classes were conducted. In the Academic year 1973-74 the following degree courses were started. B.A Economics, B.Sc Physics and B.Sc Zoology, B.Com degree course was started in the academic year 1974-75. Semester system at the Degree level was introduced from the academic year 1976-77. Sanskrit as an alternate language was introduced under Part I for degree classes from 1977-78. B.Sc. Mathematics and B.A History courses were started during the academic year 1980-81. B.Sc. Chemistry was started during 1981-82. B.Sc. Botany was started during 1982-83. M.Sc Zoology was started 1987-88. The college became Autonomous in June 1987. M.Com was started in1 989-90. B.Sc Computer Science was started in 1994-1995. M.Sc Computer Science was started in 1998-99. The Department of Commerce was recognized as Research Center for doing Ph.d in 1998-99. M.Phil in Commerce (Full Time) was introduced in 1999-2000. MSc Chemistry was introduced in 2003-04.
